M is for Maya
aka over eights.
A hip movement incorporating those hips and an eight - this time the emphasis is on the upward movement masking it an eyecatching accent. Apparently named after a famous Egyptian dancer of the same name ...
Mayas are performed by moving the hips up, around and down - first one side, then the otherht. The hips remain facing forward (so that you could perform this movement with your body flat against a wall or lying on the floor, without having to lift your hips)

Mermaid arms
This is similar to snake arms, but action is forwards not to the sides. It is actually powered by the shoulders & hands stay still in space at the front. Shoulders roll - forward, up & back. This can be a slow & sinuous movement or a cheeky little roll, depends on the dancer and music. Ideally it is not a hand motion - a hand flourish is slightly different again
